Default Differnt Attack Effect for Special Weapons

This is partically inspired from another post about by other asking for differnt attack animation to green weapons.

While an alternative attack animation might be harder to do, I think differnt attack visual effect for certain "special" (usually the more rare) weapons is a valid option.

As of now, most of the attack effect (the arrow you shot, the glob you toss from wand, the attack spark you get when you attack with sword, etc) are pretty much the same, which gets boring after a while.

So why not give the more rare or valuable weapons additonal effect? Have the Eternal Bow shoot out glowing arrows, Crytallian Sword have a crystal-shatter effect when hit, the Deathbringer Staff shoot out little floating skulls in a orb (Mortal Kombat style), make Fellbales hit-effect color black, gree-Mesmer wand that have shoots which leave a quick purple-flame (like burning, but purple) to target when hit, and more....

Effects are relativly easier to do, and many could be just change of color, or use of other existing effect. It would surely make collecting weapons more fun, and more differnt than just thier skins.

I like it. Maybe not a new animation, will take awhile and alot of hard work.
But the Eternal Bow idea is awesome, I would use mine way more if it fired glowing arrows, and Green spears that throw like lightning bolts (every RPG style)

for sure, i loved a mace i had in diablo 2 that spamed a frost nova around me, i made me feel so powerfull eve tho the nova was so weak, but the effect was so cool, we could have some like it for the special weapons, i like the idea.

They could go over the top and make a meteor hit whoever your attack hits (Diablo Style. And Dont tell me you never saw that hack)

Great idea, I like it alot.
Seems very easy and simple to do.
Alternative projectiles gfx for the rare wands / staffs could give the 'feeling' of power to them, which is exactly what RPG players want.

Actually yes. I would not object to this. If it only affects the appearance or way it looks, then no problem. It would give you more reason to want a rare weapon, while giving no advantage (like prestige armour).

If they began to scale back on a few earlier weapons such as whites have the smallest to almost nill effects, blues have somewhat bigger, purples have just below current standard, golds have just above current standard, and then greens have something altogether unique, such as changes in color, I would definitely enjoy this.

I have always enjoyed the spell/attack effects, but when you get in large groups there are tons of these going on, and I think it would cut down on all the clutter while making them somewhat more distinguishable and varying so you could actually see the effects, not a mash of yellow and reds on the target.

Just to be bit more clear....
While I do want to see more mods and possible spell/skill-weapon linkage effect with attacks, the suggestion here is more or less pure for visual only.

In addition to that, perhaps they could change some of the weapon sounds to something more appropriate. Many of the weapon sounds are like somebody dropping their silverware.

While were on the topic of D2.. why not make Obsi armour glow ^^. Just to break afew more copyright laws lol. Yes I agree on sound idea, warriors get abit tiresome. I would concentrate more on the wands... wands are magical, so they should give the holder that magical look lol.

As long as you keep the ability to turn it off. This is going to cost bandwidith, and we don't want to make it any harder for 56Kers, or interrupters

As long as they can be turned off... I can't imagine the LAG i'd get in a GvG if I played interrupter with a person who had a constant flaming aura around him every time he attacked Oo

I can imagine the Soulbreaker from the bonus pack having a very cool swirl effect like the Dervish divine aura on the top part.

Nice idea.

/signed I love weapon animations, the more eye candy the better.

The Banana scythe could make a *SPLAT* sound/visual effect every time it hits. Hahaha
